Sew fun!

This month I had a lovely email from the people at Moneysupermarket who very kindly asked me to take part in the ‘What’s in your pocket’ challenge! I was super excited to get started. They gave me £20 to spend on whatever I wanted and asked me to write a short blog post about it. It’s all about embracing the idea of money saving and feeling good, celebrating life’s little ‘wins’, things like finding money in your pocket that you didn’t know was there.

They recently came up with a feel-good experiment which involved setting up hidden cameras in a busy dry cleaners and telling customers they’d left a £20 note in their pocket by mistake. They caught their reactions on camera, you can take a look here.

So with my £20 note in my pocket off I trotted to my local fabric shop!

Making clothes for my daughter is something I love doing (but definitely don’t do enough of), it gives me great satisfaction to see her running around in something that I have made. I want her to grow up appreciating hand-made things and hopefully she will get the same joy as I do from arts and crafts.

On the other hand I rarely make anything for myself – don’t know why, I think I just get more pleasure making things for other people but this was a great excuse to make myself a denim dress, I spotted one in TopShop and thought…I could make that, it’s just a simple boxy t-shirt style dress with raglan sleeves and I have a vintage pattern which is very similar.

So £20, two dresses and fabric left over for more projects…Happy days!

Here are some photos, Audrey wanted to help with her dress, she is pretty good with a ruler and chalk! I made her dress from one of her long sleeved t shirts and added a skirt…so easy; I will do a tutorial for this at some point!

So, what would you do with £20?
