Reversable infinity cowl |Tutorial

Picture from

Materials needed:

• 6 Fat Quarters of co-ordinating fabric

• Matching thread

• Hand sewing needle /sewing machine

• pins

Step 1

Lay out your fat quarters into two rows of 3 choosing 3 for the inner and 3 for the outer cowl fabric.

You can mix and match your fabrics or choose a similar colour palate, it’s up to you! I chose this gorgeous range from Backstitch.

Step 2

With RS facing sew the top row pieces together with a 1.5cm seam allowance to form a strip of 3.

Step 3

Sew the bottom row in the same way. Remember to press the seam allowances as you go.

Step 4

Put the two strips together with RS facing and sew along each long edge joining the two strips

together so you have a big tube of fabric then pull through to RS.

Step 5

Pin each end of the cowl opening s to each other so the RS are together and sew around the inside

of the join as far as you can with a 1.5cm seam. You will be sewing inside the cowl effectively and it

will start to get tricky so this is when you stop and leave an open gap…

Step 6

Hand stitch the opening left from joining the cowl with an invisible stitch and you are finished!

Top Tips:

  • Press your seam allowances as you go –this will give a more professional finish to your project
  • This is a great stash busting project, why not make a few up for lovely gifts (or just keep them for yourself!)
  • You could use any fabric for this project as long as the pieces are the same size, why not try making one out of old jumpers or t-shirts and sew together using a zig zag stitch or serger for a thrifty and stretchy version!

I would love to see your versions if you give this a go. Put your links in comments below!
