Lord of the Ring(s)

Ring

So I get  in from a night out with a pounding head only to be greeted by my husband holding out a ring to me…as we are already married you can imagine my confusion!

Turns out he spent his Friday night far more productively than I did; making me a  ring with the silver clay kit he got for Christmas. He has always had an interest in silver-smithing/jewellery making so silver clay is just perfect for him. He won’t mind me telling you he is a massive geek and has always loved model making…particularly gnomes and goblins and he loves painting warhammer figures, so having the ability to cast his work at home over the hob is very exciting…there were a few Lord of the Rings quotes being bandied about I can tell you! Sorry Rob, there goes your street cred.

Kits are available online and there are courses you can take www.makemeworkshops.co.uk . This ring only used 4g of clay (10g is about £15) so once you have invested in the tools it’s not too bad, especially if you plan to sell your makes. I’m trying to convince Rob to start a little etsy shop…or maybe do some video tutorials. Watch this space!

Have any of you tried silver clay making? Please share pics!
