Christmas crafting with kids

Now that Audrey is 3 and better at sitting and enjoying crafts we decided to make a few Christmas decorations. I’ve wanted to try salt dough ever since seeing Kirsty’s handmade Christmas a few years ago and have only now got round to it. I don’t know why it took me so long as it’s super easy to make!

So this is what we have been up to:

Salt Dough decorations; The recipe is 1 cup flour/ half cup water/ half a cup of salt and mix, use cookie cutters or freestyle. Dry out in a very low oven for about 4-5 hour and then paint. Don’t forget to make a hole in it if you want to hang it up.

Paper chains -another childhood throw back. I think I enjoyed this way more than Auds!

Painting…we love painting and it’s nice for Auds to give a gift that she has made too.

We also go to a art play group on a Monday and that is where we made the snowman. He is essentially a tropicana bottle covered with kitchen paper and stickers and a little black paper hat.

I also got Audrey’s Christmas stocking out which I handmade for her last year. I hope that it becomes part of her Christmas tradition and something she gets excited about seeing for years to come.

So that’s it, decorations going up tomorrow, cake made, Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park on Friday (for my birthday), St. Georges NNU graduates Xmas party on Sunday…it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
