DIYs and Inspiration

Apologies for the little break from blogging, my online shop has taken priority over the last few weeks and I’ve been sewing up a storm…nearly there!

My sewing passion is at an all time high at the moment and I’m feeling particularly inspired by one lady in particular: Geneva of ‘a pair and a spare‘. Check out her blog for some awesome DIY inspiration and beautiful pics. She also has a book out which is fantastic and has really motivated me to start making myself some clothes/customising some outfits and thinking about how I can re-create catwalk looks at home. I really want to edit down my wardrobe as I feel my style is a bit all over the place at the moment, the weather isn’t helping admittedly… There are a few things I’ve been thinking about making for a while now:

Chanel inspired little jacket. I want to do an embellished version with some neon thrown in for good measure! Got some lovely woolly fabric from Fabric Land in Basingstoke (black and white fabric shown below with the yellow skirt fabric next to it). Sew on gems on their way via ebay!

A drop waist dress (not sure if this style will actually suit me so it might be up for sale if not!) Orla Kiely do a gorgeous one with pockets. I have a vintage pattern that looks like it will fit the bill nicely and some black crepe that I’ve had for about 7 years…oops! Might also embellish this one around the neckline.

Yellow pencil skirt. I’ve still got some stretch cotton left over from my degree collection (11/12 years old!) I already have the denim polka dot shirt pictured but hadn’t thought about teaming it with yellow until I saw this pic on Pinterest…love it.

Collarless coat (having trouble finding fabric I like for this one). Would like something light coloured like the Yellow Zara one below…

I’ve also made myself a dress for my lovely friend Lainey’s wedding next week with some curtain fabric (sounds hideous but it works – promise!) and Buttons from this month’s Mollie Makes mag (total cost of dress about ¬£25!) and a summer dress for a friend’s daughter using pattern New Look 6504 which is super quick and satisfying! I added a little pocket to the front to make it even sweeter and the fabric was again from Fabric Land and buttons from Mollie Makes (not sure which issue, but a few ago).

My projects

I’ve also just purchased a Colette pattern for the first time. I need more separates (scary how many dresses I own) so I need some lovely little blouses and this one looks really pretty. Am yet to find fabric for this…another trip to fabric land probably in order!

Anyone else made any of the Colette patterns? The shorts look great as does the Beignet skirt.

DIY blingy sunglasses

I’m in the midst of sewing samples for my Duck & Duffel mini collection and with the product photoshoot this week I needed some appropriate accessories to complete the look. I love all the decorated sunglasses around at the moment but being on a budget I thought I would make my own, that way they […]

Last week in pictures

The last week in pictures, this is what we did; Visited the Medicine Garden (Cobham) twice, had babyccinos/ cappuccinos galore, went to a 1st birthday party, looked at flowers, watered the garden, saw an awesome rainbow, made wrapping paper to wrap my sisters birthday pressie and made sandcastles…phew! I have also been sewing like a […]

Bank holiday Sunday Pt 2

We headed down to Brighton on Sunday afternoon after chips on the beach at Littlehampton. We decided to get the ‘park and ride’ rather than trying to get parked in town and it worked out well. The bus dropped us outside the train station and we found a great little coffee stop for a pit […]

Bank Holiday Sunday Pt 1

What a weekend! Friends, family, food, booze, sun, sea and more food. We headed off the the coast on Sunday. I took so many photos that I’m going to split them into 2 posts! We started off at the beach in Littlehampton for chips….   TBC…!

Friday finds

This week I found two great items in our local charity shops. That’s the thing I love about charity shops, you never know what treasures might be lurking! I know Sailor Boy (local charity shop come vintage store) often has vintage cameras in stock and I need one for a prop for my impending product […]

I’m dedicating this week’s post to our beautiful girl Amber who was tragically taken from us on Wednesday night. She has left a bunny shaped hole on our lives and will be greatly missed. Rupert is now a house bunny again until we see if he starts pining for her or if he is happy […]
